Legendary Coronation Street actor Evelyn Plummer recently had to say goodbye to her beloved pet Cerberus, and fans believe they know what really killed him.

Evelyn Plummer’s (Maureen Lipman) longstanding friendship with Roy Cropper (David Neilson) in this week’s Coronation Street episodes came to an abrupt end. Evelyn was devastated to have to put her dog Cerberus to sleep and blamed Roy for leaving an unattended Eccles cake on the floor, but some viewers have claimed Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) was the one who actually killed the dog.

Evelyn visited Roy on Monday night in Roy’s Rolls-Royce, keeping her company was her beloved Cerberus.

Cerberus was free to wander the cafe as the two talked, sniffing along the floors and eventually making his way behind the counter.

The two soon returned to the home of Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) and Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) after Evenly called for her dog.

Later, as Fiz and Evelyn continued their conversation, they noticed that Cerberus didn’t seem interested in his tea, which Evelyn found odd because it was his favorite time of the day.

In the episode airing on Wednesday, Tyrone entered the living room to discover Evelyn looking disheveled and confessing that she hadn’t slept because of her worries about Cerberus.

She was initially reluctant when he suggested they take him to the doctor, but she quickly warmed to the idea when Cerberus continued to object.

The vet looked at Cerberus and said he needed to do some tests to make sure there wasn’t anything sinister going on.

The vet reluctantly left the office, kissing Cerberus on the head as she went, telling Tyrone and Evelyn to wait at home.

Later that day, as Roy and her dog were sitting in the cafe, Roy admitted, “Perhaps I might know what has happened here.

There was a small incident involving an Eccles cake, which incensed Evelyn. “What kind of a cafe are you running here with poisonous things all over the floor?” she demanded. Never sweep, mop, or clean anything!”

Evelyn rebuffed Roy’s apology attempt by saying, “Roy Cropper, I am warning you I won’t forgive you if anything happens to that dog, he is my greatest companion.”

Later, Evelyn learned from the veterinarian that Cerberus was suffering from kidney failure and that it would be best for her to put him to sleep.

In heartbreaking scenes, Evelyn held her pet on the floor as the veterinarian gave him an injection, allowing him to pass away peacefully.

As Roy watched guiltily, Evelyn entered the house carrying Tyrone’s empty leash.

Despite Evelyn attributing Roy’s untimely demise to Cerberus, viewers of the ITV soap opera believed Hope was responsible.

Taking to their Twitter accounts, users such as @fussyMcWhiskers theorised: “#Corrie I’m wondering if Cerberus’ demise wasn’t caused by Roy’s Eccles cake. I’m curious if Hope poisoned him.”

@GeorgieBowing claimed: “#Corrie Hang on a minute! Could Hope have poisoned Cerberus? She already killed her own pet Chinchilla and tried to blame Beth & Kirk’s dog! – Corrie Hope killed Cerberus! I’m telling you all!”

Andy Gibson commented: “What has Hope done to Cerberus? #Corrie #CoronationStreet.”

@AllieEg said: “Wait…what? Did Hope do something to Cerberus? #Corrie.”

@CorrieFAN penned: “I honestly hope it was Hope who killed Cerberus… but her track record isn’t looking great…”

Michael Burrows tweeted: “Oh Evelyn… I am heartbroken for you! Watch out for Hope… I have a horrible feeling she had something to do with this.” (sic)
