Coronation Street ’s Simon Gregson reveals he’s got coronavirus

Coronation Street star Simon Gregson revealed that he had coronavirus after the soap set went into lockdown.


The 45-year-old-who plays Steve McDonald in the ITV soap-said to fans: “The first day out of bed today is beginning to feel a little better after getting the virus.” My main symptom was gastric, so it’s still bloody awful so fortunate not to have the respiratory system.

ITV agreed to suspend the filming of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale amid in the of the coronavirus pandemic last month. Soap actors were told not to come to work and stop the spread of the deadly bug. Bosses limited the number of episodes broadcast per week as they responded to the effects of COVID-19.

Both the bosses of Emmerdale and Corrie have more than 500 staff due to the reduced workload. Last night Sun Online revealed that the actors would be paying full pay for three months, following episodes being axed after the coronavirus lockdown.

The cast is paid annual salary-with bonuses for each episode in which they appear. Simon – who has been on soap since 1989 – is thought to earn around £ 150,000 since signing a new deal in 2016.
