“I don’t think she was the love-dovey mum she could have been.”
Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick has revealed that she’d like Vanessa Woodfield’s mother to play a part in her cancer storyline. Although Vanessa has been part of the cast since 2012, viewers have never been introduced to her mother, and she has only been mentioned infrequently.
Vanessa was diagnosed with intestinal cancer a few weeks ago and is currently helped by her fiancée Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and her sister, Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh).
Asked about the possibility of Vanessa’s mum making an appearance, Michelle replied: “We don’t know that much about Vanessa’s history. Obviously, her dad Frank was part of the show, played by the gorgeous Michael Praed.”
But now we’ve heard snippets about Vanessa maybe not getting along with her mum as well as she could have done. She’s never visited the village.
“Vanessa’s been to visit her, so obviously they’re speaking to her – but I don’t think she was the loving-dovey mom she could have been.” It would be great for me to explore it in the future. Especially with what Vanessa is going through right now, who knows?
This might happen. This will be perfect. Next week’s episodes see Vanessa begin chemotherapy treatment at the local hospital.
Despite some tensions on the road between Vanessa and Charity, Michelle has promised that the relationship between the famous couple is strong enough to survive the hurdles that ahead.
