Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick has confirmed she’d like to see the mother of Vanessa Woodfield play a part in her cancer storyline. While Vanessa has been a part of the cast since 2012, her mum has never been introduced to viewers, and she has only been occasionally mentioned. A couple of weeks ago Vanessa was diagnosed with bowel cancer and is now supported by her fiancée Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and sister Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh).
Asked about Vanessa’s mother’s chances of making an appearance, Michelle replied: “We don’t know too much about the past of Vanessa. Obviously, her dad Frank was part of the series, played by the beautiful Michael Praed.” So we’ve just heard snippets of Vanessa maybe not getting along with her mum as well as she would have liked. She’d never before been to the village.
“Vanessa was visiting her and they’re obviously talking about it – but I don’t think she’s the lovey-dovey mother she would have been.” To me, it would be nice to talk about that in the future. Especially with what Vanessa is going through right now, who knows? Can this happen. That would be awesome.
Next week’s episodes see Vanessa continue her local hospital chemotherapy treatment. Given some difficulties on the way between Vanessa and Charity, Michelle has vowed that the relationship between the famous pair is strong enough to withstand the obstacles that lie ahead.
