Dean (Patrick O’Connor) has been refusing to take his pain medication since his release from the hospital, and his suffering has resulted in multiple arguments with Ziggy (Sophie Dillman), straining their newly rekindled relationship.
Despite being warned that caring for someone in full-time rehabilitation after an accident is difficult, Ziggy is determined to be there for Dean, but she quickly realises she is in over her head. Her attempts to persuade him to keep to his medicine regimen invariably end in squabbles, leaving her weary.
Logan (Harley Bonner) tags along with Mackenzie (Emily Weir) to give Ziggy a break, and informs the women that he feels Dean is suffering from PTSD. His negative attitude toward his position stems from memories of a past vehicle accident in which a buddy died, as well as a dread of becoming hooked to opioids once more.
Dean confides in Logan and Mackenzie that he can’t focus on getting better if he believes he’s putting strain on his still-developing relationship with Ziggy. He wants them to concentrate on their relationship rather than his partner’s role as a caregiver.
He takes a difficult decision and informs Ziggy that she would have to go for the time being. Ziggy, perplexed, inquires, “Do I have to leave my own house?”
Dean explains he needs some time away from her to work on his rehabilitation, and Mackenzie pulls out the luggage she prepared for her – so she can see her sister Coco in Queensland…
