In Neighbours, Gareth Bateman’s reign of terror came to an abrupt end when David Tanaka (Takaya Honda) decided not to treat him after the life-threatening attack he carried out on Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson).
After he and Amy Greenwood (Jacinta Stapleton) travelled to River Bend in the hopes of surprising their other halves, David spotted his husband by the side of the road.
What they didn’t expect to find on the way there was Aaron’s lifeless body.
Gareth debuted on the Australian serial earlier this week, when Ned Willis (Ben Hall) and Harlow Robinson (Jemma Donovan) hunted him down and interrogated him about Freya Wozniak (Phoebe Roberts).
Freya had been looking for Gareth, alleging that he was in danger after overhearing information about a gang-related trial at his local courthouse.
Gareth, on the other hand, said Freya was lying and had been stalking him. Levi Canning (Richie Morris) was alarmed by this trend, and he eventually told Freya about his thoughts during the drive to River Bend.
Freya was outraged that Levi thought she was capable of stalking, and she stormed out.
Meanwhile, Gareth arrived with a gun, prepared to put an end to Levi’s life. It became evident at this moment that Gareth had been lying about Freya.
During the shootout, Levi was injured, and Freya was kidnapped by her psychotic ex, who disclosed that the group he was apparently fleeing were actually his protectors.
Freya was forced into the van by Gareth, who held her at gunpoint and told her to drive. Aaron, on the other hand, was in the back of the vehicle, which neither of them knew about.
Aaron emerged from concealment and tried everything he could to get himself and Freya to safety. Gareth, on the other hand, replied by repeatedly hitting him over the head with a crowbar, leaving the fate of the much-loved stalwart in doubt.
David was full of sorrow about what had happened between him and Aaron back on Ramsay Street, so he decided to travel to River Bend in the hopes of making amends.
He came upon Aaron, who was unmoving by the side of the road, on his way there.
The doctor, distraught, jumped in to help, bandaging his husband’s head wound before opting to drive him to the hospital himself, worried that waiting for an ambulance would cause him to die.
Meanwhile, Freya continued to drive the van as the evil Gareth aimed the rifle at her back. Levi staggered into the middle of the road, which provided just the right amount of diversion for her to crash the van into a nearby tree, knocking Gareth straight through the windscreen!
David instructed Amy to pull over to the side of the road as he checked on Freya and Levi.
Gareth was in grave danger, so the doctor spent no time in getting ready to help him.
That is, until Freya made a major disclosure, revealing that Gareth was the one who assaulted Aaron.
‘He did that to Aaron?!’ exclaimed David, shocked. David refrained from treating the villain’s wounds since Freya’s quiet did all the talking.
Gareth died soon after.
Will David come to regret allowing Gareth to die? What’s more, will Aaron be able to persevere?
