She lost six stones famously and fell from a size 22 to a size 10.

Yet after welcoming her son Alfie, four, Catherine Tyldesley has admitted that her diet isn't about weight loss anymore.

The former Coronation Street actress, 36, has been explaining how she has overhauled her diet to ensure

she is in the best possible shape to be around for her son as long as she can.

The star, who is fronting new Diet show: Trust Your Gut? He clarified how getting a greater understanding of her gut health changed her life, with the star eating a high protein diet beforehand.

Following her role in the 2015 Tonight documentary on ITV, the actress discovered what gut health products work best and adapted it to her daily intake of food.

She told The Mirror:' After being more plant-based, I feel more energized, mentally and physically. I expect more of a sense of vitality. So I'm much more loving food because I eat a wider range now and making all sorts of new recipes, rather than sticking to the same high-protein ones.' And Catherine's entire life outlook shifted when she welcomed her son Alfie, who turns five this week, with husband Tom Pitfield.

She explained:' Because I've had stuff with Alfie that's no longer with weight-loss, it's just about being on the planet as long as possible. You can not afford to get worse while you're busy working mum. He went on to say how necessary it is to' fuel your body properly,' adding that you wouldn't put' petrol in a diesel vehicle.'

Until her dramatic changes, the TV personality also discussed her diet and told how she was surprised to discover what she ate' lacked nutrients' compared to a body builder's diet. She said:' I was a dairy, dairy, and beef stickler. During one point when I was doing a lot of weight training, I even ate steak for breakfast. I have a strong nutritionist friend and he said when I told him what I was doing, "Blimey, Cath, you're not a bodybuilder."

Upon discovering that her' microbes' didn't function as they should be, Catherine changed her way of eating, ditching the steak breakfast and consuming a more plant-based diet of fruit, veg, and whole grains.

Catherine's diet change talk comes after being left' gutted' last month due to her broken ankle, after being forced to pull out of the Strictly tour.

Talking about the injury during an appearance on Lorraine, she said:' While on the Strictly Tour, I broke my ankle and I could not do the last section. I was completely gutted. We left the contest too early, we'd love to be there longer…This was just a second chance on the tour and then I go fracturing my ankle like Mr. Bean. But hey ho, it could have been worse-it will soon be off [the leg brace]. I'm recovering very well, and in a few weeks ' time it will be off

Catherine shared the news in her original post to fans on Instagram.

She penned:' I am completely heartbroken to let all of you know that I had to end my time sooner than planned on the @strictlycomedancinglive tour. Unfortunately, I sustained an injury that means I won't be able to dance for a while.

My tour experience was complete jubilation. Every audience has been so caring against SCD. All of my fellow dancers are amazing and I'm so thankful to have had such a beautiful display.

Devastated is an underestimation. Wishing the best time with my #Strictly family for the rest of the tour. If you get an opportunity to watch it – GO! That is truly magical!'

When asked if Catherine preferred the tour or the show, Lorraine said:' I did! There was no strain, we all had the best time and every night you do the same dance, you really do grow…

That's how I had Shirley [Ballas], Bruno [Tonioli] and Craig [Revel-Horwood] running up to me and saying,' Oh my God the better! And it was so good to get that input.' Catherine said when asked if she should continue to dance,' Oh yes! Unable to get away from me, Johannes [Radebe]. I'm like' Babe, teach me the Valtz every time I'm in London, let's do the Paso!'Destruction is an understatement. Wishing the best time with my #Strictly family for the rest of the tour. If you get an opportunity to watch it – GO! That is truly magical!'
